AutoDesk offers 2-D and 3-D tools for modeling and simulation of projects. Students and teachers can use the software for free.

AutoDesk offers 2-D and 3-D tools, with which modeling and simulation for projects, specifically in the areas of engineering, architecture, design, and digital art (with a focus on construction, planning, and entertainment) is possible.

Education License

The Education License allows use and maintenance of the AutoDesk Education Master Suite for students and teachers at Freiburg University free of cost. Use of the license is allowed however exclusively for teaching and research purposes. Employees in the areas of administration are not entitled to use the license.

AutoDesk Education Master Suite is free and can be acquired through the Academic Resource Center (ARC). The license encompasses almost all products offered by AutoDesk. This includes for example: AutoCAD and Building Information Modelling (BIM). A list of all products that are part of the Education Master Suite can be found here: http://www.autodesk.de/education.

Students, teaching staff, and employees can acquire the software for free via the Autodesk Education Community: http://www.autodesk.com/education/free-software/all

Commercial licenses

A commercial license is necessary if students or employees pursue other uses than research and teaching, even if these are not commercial, e.g. voluntary work.

This includes:

design of plans for buildings or infrastructure (e.g. by administrative staff),
using CAD-software for third parties,
cooperation with third parties,
private or club/association use.

In these cases use of the license free of cost is not allowed. In these cases a commercial license must be acquired.

Commercial licenses are buying licenses not limited to a time period. This means that the buyer acquires legal rights to the software. A subscription for 12 months can be added. This includes: support, updates, home-user licenses, version changes.
