The University IT Services ("RZ") is the IT service provider for the University of Freiburg. The RZ has been the central operating facility since 1966. We provide the IT infrastructure for the university. On our web pages you will find all information about our tasks and services.

This is intended to improve system performance. There will be no change to the way connected Wi-Fi clients operate.

The university is terminating the underlying contract and will not be switching to the new generation of the shop. In future, the Computer Centre will distribute SPSS licences directly; the installation packages will be available to university members via ILIAS. Microsoft licences are not affected and will continue to be covered by the campus licence agreement. The MATLAB campus licence had already expired. The products previously available in the shop (e.g. Parallels Desktop, CorelDRAW, Camtasia, ABBYY FineReader, EndNote) can now be purchased independently on the open market at EDU rates. The University’s procurement guidelines apply in this regard. Further information and details can be found in the main text of this notice.

7 July 2026, 11:55: Maintenance break for AI systems, Tue 7 July 2026, 13:30 – approx. 14:30 Jul 07, 2026 11:58 AM #ufrstatus #wartung Maintenance work needs to be carried out on the AI infrastructure. The AI services Open WebUI and the ILIAS AI assistants will be unable to process any requests today, Tuesday 7 July 2026, between 13:30 and approximately 14:30. It will also not be possible to use the LLMs via the API during this time.

We are working to restore the service and will keep you informed. All other login methods remain unchanged.

The staff email server is available again. Emails temporarily stored on the DFN are now being processed gradually. This may, in some cases, lead to a slight delay in the delivery of emails.
26 June 2026, 16:35: 17:00 – Start of the update; mail server downtime Jun 26, 2026 04:57 PM #ufrstatus #wartung #stoerung As previously announced, we are now commencing maintenance on the central network component and will gradually be taking the central mail server services for university staff (CommuniGate/MailSPEC) offline. We will post a final update here as soon as the work is complete.
26 June 2026 13:37: Maintenance on a central network component today from 17:00 to 22:00 – CommuniGate mail server down Jun 26, 2026 01:41 PM #ufrstatus #wartung #stoerung As previously announced on several occasions, an update to a central network component is taking place today. In this particular case, the existing redundancy cannot be utilised, and there will be an impact on the central email service for staff (CommuniGate/MailSPEC). The service will be unavailable during the maintenance period from 17:00 to approximately 22:00. Incoming emails will be temporarily stored by the DFN. It will not be possible to send or receive emails via CommuniGate during this time.
