Opening ceremony of the common pool and E-exam center at Werthmannstraße 4: Today the opening ceremony of the common pool and E-Exam center at Werthmannstraße 4 took place. Among those present were students, the rector, the prorector for teaching, the prorector for digital transformation, the cooperating faculties and colleagues from the University IT Services.
Tuesday, April 30, 2019: Interruption of TSM operations due to migration: From approximately 9 a.m. onwards, the library manager will be migrated from AIX to Linux. During this time, TSM operations will be interrupted. As this is the first time the University IT Services is performing such a migration, it is not clear yet how long this works will last.
24.04.2019 9 a.m. to 25.04.2019 5 p.m.: Migartion works on the Infoblox: From Wednesday, April 24, 9 a.m. to Thursday, April 25, 5 p.m. the central DHCP/DNS Appliance (Infoblox) will be migrated to a new hardware. The services (DHCP and DNS) will continue to work during this time.
New opening times for the PC pools in the data center and in Werthmannstr. 4: The PC pools in the data center are only open for registered courses, not for "free practice". The current controlled 3G Corona rules apply. The PC pools are currently in Werthmannstr. 4 also only open for courses and "free practice" (after prior registration in HISinOne) under the current controlled 3G Corona rules.
Wednesday, April 17, 2019 from 4 p.m. - HISinOne maintenance: The Campus Management System HISinOne (productive, demo and active test system) will be unavailable on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 from 4 p.m. for about 60 minutes due to necessary maintenance work.
Issues with receiving emails during mail server renovation: During the renovation of the mail server, some of the incoming emails did not get delivered due to a mail loop.
Issues with Windows Updates: Some are experiencing issues due to updates from Microsoft, which were sent out for patchday (Windows 7 SP1, Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1, Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2)
Docata error message: Due to technical issues, the doctoral administration system Docata is currently not available. Update: Docata is available again.
New E-Learning courses offered during Summer Semester 2019: Following courses will be offered during the summer semester:
Electronic examination at University of Freiburg: For a couple years now, the E-Learning department and the state project bwLehrpool have supported electronic examinations at university PC rooms. With the opening of the PC rooms at Werthmanstraße 4 on April 24, the capacities have been increased, as bigger rooms and generally more spaces will be available. Legally reliable E-Exams with over 150 participants are now also possible in Freiburg.

DAAD summer school for "Research Data Management in Data Intensive Computing" completed successfully: The Summer School, co-organized by Freiburg (RDMG, eScience, chair for communication systems) and Ulm (OMI), had the objective of providing a broad overview of handling data management and different aspects of research data management over the complete life cycle of the data. The importance of data for science and the future development of the scientific landscape were also covered.
Friday, April 12, 2019, 6 p.m.: Mail server renovation works: Due to renovation works on the mail server for the set-up of the redundant location, the mail server will be shut down for approximately two hours at 18:00. The mail service will not be available during this time.
Matlab licenses available in Asknet shop: Matlab licenses are now available to employees and students through the Asknet shop

Central Matlab license server updated: The IT Services´ central Matlab license server has been updated. Clients may now activate the new Matlab Version 2019a.
Presentation of compute and PC pool concepts for partners at UFPR: As part of the DAAD summer school, an existing exchange with partners from C3SL (computer science) has been intensified. For this, colleagues from the eScience department presented the present state of the current compute and PC pool concepts.
RDMG and current IT Services department FDM projects at local E-Science days: Representatives of the Research Data Management Group of the University of Freiburg and the chair for communication systems will be present at this year´s E-Science days, together with colleagues from the University library (UB) and coorperation partners. ViCE, CiTAR, bwSFS and the Science Data Center BioDATEN will be present in Heidelberg as well.
Friday, March 29, 9:00 - 10:00: short interruption of TSM operation: Due to a pressing driver update, some interruptions will occur in the TSM activity between 9 and 10 a.m.
New licenses for Matlab not available yet: Unfortunately. the current License Files and Activation Keys for students and for the individual licneses for the period from April 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020 are not available yet. Current activations will run until April 30, 2019.
Workshops: Fellowships for innovation in academic teaching: This year, the Donor´s Association (Stifterverband) is again offering multiple fellowships for innovation in academic teaching and has also organized an information workshop for this.

DAAD summer school for "Research Data Management in Data Intensive Computing": The chair for communication systems as well as the eScience Group of the University IT Services are, together with colleagues from Ulm, organizing a three week DAAD Summer School on the subject of Research Data Management at the UFPR in Curitiba.
Research Data Management Principles: After being approved by the Rectorate and presented to the Senate, the Research Data Management Principles set by the Research Data Management Group and involved institutions like FRS, UB and IT Services is now here.

bwCloudScope interruptions: Attention: There are currently issues with the bwCloud Scope log-in. We are aware of the problem and are working tirelessly to make the Cloud avaiable again. Another note: There is currently another issue with the storage. This only pertains to the instances that were created before the interruption on Monday. New instances and volumes can be created and will work. We are working on this problem as well and are trying to solve it as soon as possible.

bwLehrpool: pool room outages 14.03., 7:30-10:30: On Thursday, March 14, between 7:30 and 10:30, power will be shut down to test the emergency power supply. Although the bwLehrpool server will not be affected, outages are certainly to be expected in the pool rooms of the computer center.
