Presentation on current developments by a colleague from the eScience department

The exchange with the C3SL at computer sciences of the Universidade Federal do Paraná has now existed for over ten years. In addition to direct student exchanges, the summer schools have been used to establish a personal exchange on different projects. The cooperation for an efficient operation of PC pools was started, which has led to the implementation bwLehrpool on the IT Services part.

Another subject was the effective deployment of compute infrastructures, especially Cloud and HPC. In the context of the operation of NEMO and the ATLAS resources as well as bwCloud and the de.NBI-Teil-Cloud some interesting operation models exist (flexible re-deployment, state-less compute nodes, use of DNBD3 as efficient block device). Both presentations, "A Sorting Hat for Large-Scale Infrastructures - Dynamic and scalable provisioning for large PC pools, cloud and HPC hardware installations" and "Capa*-Computing: A common ground for HPC, HTC and DIC", were part of the PhD colloquium at C3SL. In this context there was as also a lively exchange with the admins of the local HPC and PC pool infrastructures.
