Announcing the 3rd pandemic stage - extended mask obligation within the University of Freiburg: In the course of the proclamation of the 3rd pandemic stage for the whole federal state of Baden-Württemberg, the Corona Ordinance on Study Operation and Art will be adapted. The new regulations will apply from Monday 19 October 2020.

University Governance for Research Data - Initiating a Discussion: The RDMG group is initiating the discussion on how to design a governance of research data at the University of Freiburg. We have circulated guiding questions to formulate the current state and needs at the Faculties, Clusters of Excellence and Collaborative Research Centers.
Expansion of the video conferencing solution BigBlueButton for the winter semester 2020/21: The video conferencing solution BigBlueButton has been extended and can now also be used for working and research groups as well as for virtual committee meetings independent of the learning platform ILIAS.
Thursday, 15.10.20, Adobe Connect Update finished!: Adobe Connect online meetings can be conducted again.
Wed 14.10.2020 from 18:00: Security patch at the UC of telephony: Additional security patches must be installed on the Unified Communication Service (UC) of VoIP telephony.
Monday, 12.10.2020, full day maintenance work at UC: On Monday, 12.10.2020, UC will not be available due to maintenance work. UC stands for Unified Communications. !!!! All services like Zoom, BigBlueButton and .... will continue to work !!!! Only the conference calls set up via the telephone system will not be available on this day. Also, the redirection of the telephones to the "home office" that were set up via UC will not work on this day.
ILIAS database maintenance completed: The maintenance work on the ILIAS database cluster has been successful. ViMP videos are also available on ILIAS after the successful update of the ViMP video portal (https://video.uni-freiburg.de).
ILIAS is available again: The ILIAS update was successfully completed. Due to a pending update of the ViMP video server, videos from ViMP are currently not running in ILIAS. The ViMP server will be updated on Tuesday, 29.09.2020, to restore the compatibility of both systems.

Mail and (IP) telephony failure: The mail server (Communigate) and the (IP) telephone system are currently not available due to a system outage. We are working hard to solve the problem.
bwLehrpool: Change in the pool of the teaching building of the Medical Faculty: In the course of modernizing the pool of Medical Education, the existing bwLehrpool installation was converted to the new pool concept with its own subnet.
Technical failure: various services and systems not available - UPDATE: due to unknown reasons some services are currently not available - ILIAS and the wiki server are among others affected. Update: since about 12.00 all services are available again. The cause of the problem is still unclear.
Spam wave with encrypted ZIP files attached: Since 2 days a wave of spam has been observed in Freiburg schools and PH (Freiburg University of Education). The BelWü (the data network of the scientific institutions of the state of Baden-Württemberg/"Baden-Württemberg extended LAN") is about to implement defense measures.
bwLehrpool available in Campus Management (Hermann-Herder-4): The newly established computer pool of the Campus Management department also offers bwLehrpool.
New calendar backend of electronic door signs: Due to an upcoming change in the HISinOne, the calendar backend of the electronic door signs used at various locations on campus was changed. This should have no effect on the actual display.
General switchover to https: All websites in the Content Management System of the University of Freiburg are now only accessible via https.
Setting up bwSFS (Storage-for-Science) begins in the Uni IT Services Building: In the meantime three racks have been filled with the storage components of the bwSFS system. The power and network cabling will be done in further steps. Parallel to this, the definition of the various user roles and interfaces on the system for offering customized storage and RDM services will be carried out.
Build up of bwSFS (Storage-for-Science) begins in KG II: Today, with the help of our IT Services operating group, the setting up of bwSFS (Storage-for-Science) has started in machine room III (redundancy location B in the basement of KG II). After commissioning, the system will provide support in the active handling of research data for NEMO and bioinformatics communities and ensure the entry into long-term research data management.

ZOOM Video conferencing system fault: We receive messages that the access to online meetings with zoom is disturbed and incomprehensible error messages are displayed.

DataPLANT Consortium at NFDI Conference: DataPLANT - a NFDI (National Research Data Infrastructure) initiative focused on basic plant research - participated as one of the funded consortia at the Second NFDI Conference (online format) on 8 and 9 July 2020.
Confirmation of the NFDI Consortium "DataPLANT" by Joint Science Conference: The German Research Foundation is funding the "DataPLANT" consortium as part of the NFDI under the leadership of the University of Freiburg with approximately eleven million euros. The eScience department, together with researchers at the Freiburg Bio-Campus and throughout Germany, has launched and successfully applied for a "Fundamental Plant Research" initiative.
New SPSS licenses are available: New features: The new SPSS licenses including AMOS for the versions 25, 26 and 27 from the new framework agreement are now available for purchase in the Asknetshop. There are a few changes. Please read the notes.

Closure and dismantling of the PC pools in KG II: Due to the imminent closure of the building, the PC pools in KG II operated by the University IT Services will be dismantled in the next few weeks. This location has already been replaced by the PC Pools in Werthmannstraße 4, the necessary structural renovations have been completed.
