Extension of central storage system/file server

The IT Services extended the central storage system in the 6th week of 2019.

Thanks to the funds of a big client from bioinformatics (de.NBI) of Prof. Backofen, the central storage system has been extended from 16 to 32 storage nodes. Despite a change in generation, the new nodes could be integrated into the existing system seemlessly. 16 Gen6 type A200 storage nodes werde added to the already existing Gen5, type X410 from Dell/EMC of the storage product Isilon. Simultaneously, the redundant backend switches had to be changed without interruption since the Infiniband switch with 18 ports had to be replaced by a new Infiniband switch with 36 ports, in order to connect the 32 storage nodes through the same switch. The integration of the new storage nodes was completed with the help of Concat AG.

The total capacity of the central storage system is now at 3,66 PiB (equals approx. 4,12 Petabyte, or 5,88 Mio. CDs with a standard memory of 700 MB).
