2024-03-06 14:10: "Save the Date" 10th HPC Symposium on September 25/26 in Freiburg

The bwHPC Symposium will take place for the tenth time in 2024 - this time again in Freiburg. It is an established platform for scientists to exchange ideas with the operators of large, federated research infrastructures for scientific computing. The event assumes an interface function that allows central and socially relevant topics such as energy and resource efficiency to be addressed. The development of open software for research and operation benefits from a personal meeting at a common location, where both new ideas and best practices are presented and discussed.

The event at the end of September offers various formats for the exchange of ideas: from panel discussions to classic scientific presentations and the introduction of a wide range of technical approaches, as well as poster sessions and lightning talks to test new ideas and approaches and attract fellow participants. With its accompanying program consisting of a relaxed evening program with an Evening Lecture on the topic of energy efficiency as well as various courses and tutorials that frame the main program, young researchers in particular are addressed. At the same time, this can promote a cultural change that places greater emphasis on methods, optimization and software development and recognizes them as part of a scientific career. This is supported by the accompanying publication in the peer review process (publication on the 5th HPC Symposium in Freiburg in 2018). Physics is traditionally a strong representative in the use of HPC and is strongly represented by various groups. For example, the Freiburg site cooperates closely with groups in elementary particle physics in the ATLAS and CMS projects at CERN.

The event is organized by the local competence center HPC. Further, regularly updated information on the event can be found on the event planner at KIT.
