Research data management: From project planning and daily work to the publication of data

Research data is generated in all sciences, but its structure and form depend on the respective discipline. It is the responsibility of every scientist and scholar to preserve, manage and publish their research data. Research institutes and universities should provide their scholars with suitable infrastructures and services for this central task. This process must be structured and organized. An increasingly established step is the use of data management plans (DMP). They can primarily be seen as an abstract concept that helps to define data management over the planned course of the research project and its subsequent long-term availability. A DMP structures the handling of research data throughout its life cycle.

To this end, a DMP structures the handling of research data throughout their life cycle and thus serves as a flexible management tool for scientists. The aim of the event, which is also supported by the Science Data Center BioDATEN project, is to investigate the many and varied issues surrounding data management and to enable participants to create such a plan themselves. Contents of the course:

  • Research data management as a prerequisite for good scientific practice
  • Development and design of a data management plan (collection, description of the data genesis or data stock, data management, archiving and publication)
  • Successful data management in research proposals
  • Online help tools and sample DMPs (BMBF, DFG)
  • Exchange and stocktaking

The materials for the workshop in the form of tutorials and introductory texts will be sent out before the training, the preparation time is between one and two hours. Registration is done via the IWB (Internal Training).

Due to the new start of the semester on 11 May, this course will also be postponed. A new date will be announced in consultation with the IWB.
